Yusuf picks up the picture frame in his lap, staring at the happy couple within it. Then his face grows tense. He screams out and flings the frame across the room. It splinters to pieces, and the photo floats down to the floor.
Without another word, Barbara marches out of the bedroom. A moment later, the apartment door opens then slams shut.
Barbara makes a full 360 degree circle, while attempting to calm herself, then re-focuses her glare onto Yusuf.
Barbara’s choke hold is tight enough to block his breath, yet Yusuf refuses to show any distress. He just stares back stoically, through watering eyes. She holds her glare and her grip for another long few seconds, then pulls her hand away while taking a big step back. Yusuf swipes the wet from his eyes,
Barbara marches over to the bed, slams the picture frame down on Yusuf’s thighs and then grabs him one-handed by the throat.
Barbara spins around to glare at Yusuf, with the 3×5 picture frame held out in her hand. Its photo is a close-up of the two of them smiling joyfully in the sands of a beach. His arm is draped around her, and her head is tilted onto his shoulder.
Barbara heads in the direction of Yusuf’s pointing finger to retrieve her missing item. He rolls over and sits up, letting his bare back rest against the headboard. Comfortably naked, he takes in the morning sunlight while she finishes dressing.
